Dave Parry is originally from Stoke-on-Trent, England, an area known as 'The Potteries' and being for being home to Royal Doulton and Wedgewood. He graduated from University of the West of England, Bristol, in 1997 with a BA in Ceramics, and established his own studio and began selling his work in markets and galleries across the southwest of England.
Following a brief career detour, where he trained and worked as an arborist, David Parry and his American wife, Melissa, moved to Oregon. In 2009 they set up the Whistle Post Pottery together. “More circumstance than design we ended up in Eugene and found ourselves in a region where trees and pottery were plentiful. The abundance of natural inspiration and creative outlets rekindled the urge to work with clay and Whistle Post Pottery was born.”
Whistle Post Pottery is based within earshot of the Union Pacific mainline. The industrial influence of the railroad is married with the couple’s love for the Willamette River, and the wildlife it supports. The pottery is David's creative vision and skill developed through twenty years of practice shored up by Melissa's ability to do a little bit of everything, including keeping him on track.
