Gary Goodman

Gary Goodman is a British painter, printmaker and poet.  His “just do it” attitude results in resoundingly direct imagery that is authentic and unaffected by artistic self-consciousness, ego and politeness. He asserts that he often produces his best work when bored. The ingredients are plucked from everyday life. “I like animals and thunderstorms and lots of other things that end up in my pictures and writing.”

He teaches printmaking at Brighton University, Northbrook College and Brighton Independent Printmakers. He originally studied illustration at Brighton University and has been performing and exhibiting since 1987. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including the National Portrait Gallery, Royal College of Art (Hunting Art Prizes) and Mall Galleries (Discerning Eye).

Gary has also participated in International Symposia in Estonia, Germany and France. He has undertaken many artist’s residencies and workshops, and won several awards to travel and create new work. Gary is a featured artist in the publications Painting the Figure: a New Approach by Emily Ball (2009) and Printmaking: Traditional and Contemporary Techniques by Ann d’Arcy Hughes (2008).
