Scot Cameron-Bell is a Portland based potter. She throws her with red clay and then manipulates the form to create something irregular and organic. They are decorated with bight color and bold graphic designs, which she describes as “silly birds or flowers.”
She uses high-fired underglazes to create intense colors. Inspired by old pottery shards she found washed up on a beach, she wanted to add weathered, crackle effect to her colorful surfaces. Rather than using crackle glazes Scot stretches the clay to create crackles in a more deliberate fashion, using a damp box, clay wax and stain.
